Six South Lake Triathletes Compete in the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii

This past Saturday, South Lake was fortunate enough to have six athletes compete in the 39th edition of the Ironman World Championships in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. While the Clermont area triathletes representation may not seem like a whole lot to an outsider, it is somewhat amazing considering our neighbors in the much larger Orlando area didn’t have half this many.

Our local athletes earned their ticket to this most prestigious triathlon in the World either by a highly competitive qualification system at other Ironman events or by completing 20+ events of this ultra distance.

The Ironman Triathlon covers 140.6 miles of ground on the big island with a 2.4 mile swim in the choppy Pacific, 112 mile…
